Overview:
Green Works is a premier dispensary in East San Diego specializing in Indicas, specifically OG and Bubba Kush. They have a wide variety of impressive strains, offer daily specials and a frequent member program. Their vibe is very unique and their staff is one of the best. GW’s location is an old house and its budroom is reminiscent of a private coffee shop. GW is San Diego's finest dispensary, an establishment founded by connoisseurs for connoisseurs.


GW is located on University Avenue in East San Diego County near SDSU. I originally had trouble finding the location, but it's become much easier with the addition of a new sign at the entrance. Parking can be a challenge during busy times. There have been numerous times when I've been able to park right in front and others when I've had to park down the block. This minor inconvenience has never hindered my experience at GW mostly because of the dispensary's unique atmosphere, high quality product and exemplary service.

Staff:
GW's staff is friendly, fast, efficient and, most importantly, highly knowledgeable about the strains they carry. GW is professionally and efficiently run. Their menu is updated multiple times per day, a simple detail that is too often lacking at other dispensaries. Compassion often comes up in evaluating dispensaries and the staff certainly delivers in this area. Whether it be a friendly smile and conversation from the receptionist, generosity on the scales in the budroom or patient one-on-one attention with members, GW consistently impresses with compassion in new and creative ways. The constant addition of new specials and better values while improving product quality and variety is a testament to their dedication.


Atmosphere and experience:

The atmosphere at GW reminds me of a private and exclusive coffee shop. The location is an old house and it lends a warm vibe to the dispensary. Once led through a secure door, you are greeted by a friendly receptionsist and find yourself in a cozy waiting room with wood floors and a comfortable sofa. There's a flat screen TV that always has something intriguing on. I've caught myself laughing out loud to Anchorman and staring at a random cartoon. The lighting isn't overly bright and helps establish a mood. Check-in for new members is quick and the staff welcomes them with a helpful tour and an explanation of GW's services and product.

The budroom is the main event and it delivers. Pristine glass cases house jars of well organized gems. The quality of the product is immediately recognizable by the look and, of course, the pungent smell. The dark wood accents help lend character to the budroom. There are coffee beans to smell between checking out strains and two magnifying glasses to help further evaluate the quality of the goods. The smallest details are often what patients remember most. The buds are weighed in front of you and I've never felt rushed. After making selections, patients leave with a brown paper bag stamped with GW's logo with professionally labeled prescription bottles inside.

The best part of the atmosphere at GW is easy to overlook unless you frequent other dispensaries because unlike most dispensaries, GW actually has a vibe. The first time I visited, I remember being struck by this. I was reminded of Grey Area, my favorite coffee shop in Amsterdam. It's small, but intimate and exclusive. It's a coffee shop founded by Americans who are passionate about the quality of their buds. GW is the same. I would describe the crew at GW as weed snobs and it's a compliment of the highest order. You can sense the confidence they have in their quality and it further enhances the ambiance.

Most importantly, GW is a club and it feels like one. Seeing familiar friendly faces truly helps the experience. It can be awkward going to dispensaries for the first time, but I've never felt awkward at GW. There are excellent perks for loyal members as well. UFC fight nights and barbeque's are common and memorable. The reason GW is my dispensary of choice boils down to one simple fact: I've never left dissatisfied.

[B]Bud Quality:[/B]
In short, sensational, consistent and always evolving. I've discovered many of my favorite strains at GW and find new ones almost every visit. Below are just a few of my many favorites:


1.) 619 V.S.O.G* GW Exclusive

Grade: A/A+

Type: Mostly Indica

Lineage: A unique phenotype of OG Kush.

Price: $20/gram, $60/8th, $110/ quarter, $210 half ounce /$400 ounce

Looks: Hairy dank nugs. Dark and light green buds with a ton of orange hairs. Sticky when broken up.

Smell: Pine, citrus, earth and grass. There is a slight sweetness to the scent.

Taste: Like the smell with a piney and slightly sweet grassy flavor. Hit smoothly with heavy lung expansion.

Buzz: Heavy and sedating. Very relaxing and slightly euphoric. Good for sleep. Definitely a late night smoke.

Summary: A unique and heavy example of OG Kush. I’m a fan of nighttime OGs and this one hits the spot. This strain can only be found at Green Works SD in San Diego.

2.) 619 Vader OG Kush

Grade: A/A+

Type: Mostly Indica

Lineage: A unique phenotype of OG Kush

Price: $20/gram, $60/8th, $110/ quarter, $210 half ounce /$400 ounce

Looks: Chunky nugs that branch off into fingerling shapes. Soft, dank and sticky when broken up. Mostly dark green with burnt orange hairs and abundant trichome coverage.

Smell: Pine and citrus with a touch of fuel. Delicate OG scent.

Taste: Similar to the smell out of a vaporizer with a cooling citrus flavor noticeable on early inhales. Smooth vapor that expands in the lung.

Buzz: Relaxing and peaceful high that’s heavy to the body. The effects begin with an immediate head change that’s calming, clear and slightly spacey. The body effects are very comfortable and come on gradually. Heavy doses will lock you to the couch or help with sleep. Best for the evening or late in the afternoon.

Summary: The Vader OG at GW is one of the best examples of OG I’ve come across. I’ve sampled several batches and enjoyed them all thoroughly. The smell and taste aren’t overpowering, but I like them very much. The high is especially memorable; clean, clear and peaceful.

3.) 619 Alien OG Bubba Kush


Grade: A

Type: Mostly Indica

Lineage: Alien OG crossed with Bubba Kush

Price: $20/gram, $60/8th, $110/ quarter, $210 half ounce /$400 ounce

Looks: Big chunky nugs. Dark and light green buds with a few orange hairs and good trichome coverage. Dense, dank and sticky.

Smell: Musty, woody and piney with some sweet spice. Smells a bit like sawdust. Woodier than Bubba Kush, mustier than OG Kush. The scent is closest to Bubba.

Taste: Close to the smell with a musty pine flavor. Rich vapor with moderate lung expansion.

Buzz: Heavy and relaxing. The head high is clear and peaceful. The body buzz is sedating and couch lock-y in high doses. Good nighttime strain.

Summary: A very solid cross of OG and Bubba. The smell and taste was closer to Bubba, but the buzz balanced the characteristics of both strains nicely.


4.) Master Kush



Grade: A

Type: Mostly Indica

Lineage: Hindu Kush crossed with Skunk #1

Price: $18/gram, $55/8th, $100/ quarter, $190 half ounce /$350 ounce

Looks: Dense, frosty and spiky. Medium green with a ton of burnt orange hairs. Trichome coverage is even heavier when broken up with some purple hues noticeable. Nugs are very sticky when pulled apart.

Smell: Musty, woody and skunky with a sweet spiciness. Classic Master Kush scent.

Taste: Woody with a sweet spiciness. Very tasty.

Buzz: Relaxed body buzz with a clear head high. The head high is calming, but active and slightly euphoric. Best for the evening. Great for watching a movie.

Summary: I'm a huge fan of Master Kush and this is a great batch. I loved the taste and buzz. The nugs were nicely frosted and sticky when I broke them apart.

i went back in today,brought in my hash that was makin me sick,and exchanged it for some of the sour d they have in....the sour d was a lower price,so we had to work with what i had to return(as i had smoked some)...i get this home,throw in a chunk,smoke it up,and BAM!....

i really dont like putting down negatives,but i feel i am forced to...i got 4 grams of hash here on friday....was told it was skywalker og,i believe....it smelled awesome,had great consistency,looked good,and i am a hash guy,so i grabbed it up....and when i got home and smoked it,it tastes like burnt tires...i mean STRONGLY like burnt rubber.....the high,what i feel of it,is nice,but i get nauseated by the taste,so i can hardly smoke any....i spent a large amount of my monthly available cash to get it cuz i happened to be in the area(which is rare for me),i like the place,and i needed some hash....now im stuck in oceanside with hash that i cant smoke and $100 less in my pocket

on an up note,the lavender OG is prime,beautiful 2gs for $30,one of the best tastes ever(i LOVE lavender),great high,smooth as can be

Top notch. One of the best in SD. These are the "real deal" OG's and these guys work with high-end "Cannaseur" level medicine. If you are like me and are ONLY interested in Cannaseur, not schwag, see these guys!

It's hard to believe that the MMJ scene in late 2010 San Diego it is STILL possible to buy schwag in San Diego for $60/eighth! These guys ARE NOT one of those places. They have nothing but HIGH END bud. The best. Top Shelf. Prestige. What ever superlative you care to use, I prefer "Cannaseur" level bud, this place is the place.

Last time, I tried the Chewey OG and the GDP.

The Chewey OG is a superb, aromatic, tasty OG that packs a heavy punch. Just what I like in an OG. Chewy OG will hold its own up against ANY OG out there. Bottom line.

The GDP was absolutely superb. VERY potent, good sleep and pain-relief medicine. Smells and tastes like grape candy. Not the darkest purple GDP I've ever had, but IMHO, that's not everything anyway. Potency and taste are most important and this stuff is point on there.

Great place, gets my "Cannaseur" Seal of Approval!

We had to park around the corner which wasn't to bad of a walk. Was greeted quickly at the door by a young lady. My friend got registerd pretty quick and in no time we were in the bud room with Nuggs. I wanted to check out the ounce special on the northern lights. Nuggs offered a bowl and of course we said yea. Buds were nice an compact. And for 175 for an ounce was a great deal. I was medicated for an hour or so from the hit. I wanted to try one of the OG's because I always heard that they got the best. I asked for a suggestion and went with 619 private reserve og. Which was super dank. I stayed medicated for a good 3-4 hours. Really got the munchies. The smell was awesome. Sort of like a sweet smell. It went down smooth but it did make me cough . Tasted just like it smelt Overall I had a good experience. See you guys next time!

this happened to be the first dispensary i went to.. and damn, it set the bar high..

low key place.. residential houses all turned into businesses.. look for the tri palms realty sign.. nice comfortable waiting area.. you MUST have your original req and id every time.

this place seriously has the top grade stuff in all categories.. herbs, edibles, and concentrates.. no joke! their OGs are fire! yummy edibles that do their job.. and strong concentrates that taste good and are always on point..

i happened to be lucky enough to go on my first visit a day that Nuggs was there.. he 's a cool cat.. and compassionate too cuz he let me go check out the lounge.. i can't wait to get enough visits in to be able to go in there whenever i visit and to attend their bbqs and other various events.

the entire staff super friendly and extremely knowledgeable and caring.. they definitely want to know what you're looking for and will steer you in the right direction as to what to medicate with..

my bad luck, this dispensary is in east county while i live in pb.. so for the month of august i decided to try out different dispensaries in my area.. 1. because i'd just gotten my card for the first time and wanted to check everything out.. 2. to figure out what my go to dispensary will be.. the one place around town i can depend on.. 3. to see how Green Works holds up in comparison to others..

during this month long journey i found the best of the beach communities.. BUT.. NONE of them COMPARE TO GREEN WORKS on always being on point! i buy from the top shelf wherever i go and sometimes i get disappointed.. but here, you will never be disappointed in the top shelf.. actually, i think their bottom shelf stuff is better than some other places top shelf.. so no matter what you buy here, it will be good! their bud selection process is AMAZING.. always coming with some fire.. OG reigns supreme..

my most recent purchase from here was Chewy OG and Jabba OG.. you can have too many OGs from Green Works.. one hit out of the bong and i was done! it is so crazy how good the meds taste when you buy them here.. it's something you might not necessarily realize until you stop coming here for a month, like i did, but this place has far superior meds than anywhere else in SD and you can tell with every hit of marijuana and every bite of edible you take..

i need to somehow get them to open up a branch in pb.. then living at the beach would be perfect!

got in looking for an indica and came to a fork in the road between a hybrid and an indica and my choice was..

chewy og(indica)-wow this og had the kick of some of the best og out there and the taste was a super smooth with a hint of sweetness, a nice size bowl is a pleasure to combust fo sho !!!

Stopped in last night about 7:30, There were 2 guys in front of me and the budroom was occupied. So I had a lil wait to deal with. Dre walks in and was like oh shit' what happened? (I am assuming he left and it was empty and full on his return) Thats a good thing though! Kind of like going to a chinese restaurant/buffet, do you go to the one which is empty or the one full of chinese businessman? I found my chinese businessman! haha, was welcomed into the back and checked out a few of the topshelf nugs, but was on a budget and needed the best bang for the buck ya know? So i settled on some gorilla and a lil romberry. First thing I have to say regarding GW's pricing is they are not like most clubs offering mids and lows aswell as highs, the offer what they consider "Lows" now at some place this is borderline mexi brick, not here, here you get nugs and as far as I can see the only reason as to why they are cheaper is because the trim is not as professional and perhaps the actual genes themselves are not "top notch", however if it was to have been grown in a similar fashion to the top shelf, the buds would be every bit as good! Tahoe looks great as most of the planetaries do. My go to spot,might stop by other places, but I always return here. Keep up the great work Green Works!

p.s. I only mentioned the wait because Dre and Rob made up for it, they threw in a preroll that smells skunky! I;ll be smoking that for lunch time. They didn't need to do anything, as a line happens and they have no control of the flow of people coming in. Thanks though guys, it really shows you care about your customers!

This is the spot. Great meds and better service. no BS. I like the top shelf og's but they pack a nice seclection of hybrids and sativas. don't be surprised to find 40 different kinds of meds on the shelf. lots of variety it makes it so hard to choose some time. so go here you wont be disappointed.

first of all,i love that this place is in a converted house....its sooo comfy for the BBQ,which is what brought me down to this part of the county

the BBQ was great,and i can tell you,i sampled a LOT of different flowers,and they were all great...the ghost og is an amazing creeper,the fireband was sooo tasty and hits hard,the white widow had me hacking and loving it...serious,everything here is good,and the people are really nice...it doesnt take much to smile and i got a lot here,wonderful

my one problem is the proce...now,i understand they have a LOT of great stuff for $50 an 8th and lower,even the $40 an 8th stuff looked great...my problem is,im not generally an 8th buyer,i am an ounce buyer...i have limited funds and i have to make the most of those,and their quantity prices are a bit much for me....this would be a non issue if money was good,so if yer not strapped for cash all the time,ignore this criticism,and/or if you are an 8th buyer all the time,because their 8th prices are fine,and the quality is off the hook...so the 8th prices will get a 4.5 star,the 3 is simply quantity pricing(and i understand different places specialize in different ways of doing it,and this is simply more of an 8th place,its all good)...i mean,its not like they charge $80 an 8th or anything,and i will definately be back when i have a little extra to get some tip top quality

im not gunna review the stuff i smoked there for the BBQ...it was all good,but i seriously was back and forth,strain after strain,that i couldnt give a realistic review as i was blasted on all of it!

i picked up an 8th of jedi mind trick kush...i dont even know how i ended up with it,i was talking to the budtender,and he waved his hand,and then i remember being outside with a bag in my hand!in that bag was a jar of an awesome OG,the smell is almost like an organic cleaner...simple green!...it smells dank and strong,with little typical OG buds that break into OG popcorn nugs,super frosty with trichs,and it tendrils out a little like banana kush,with the bud nubs growing off the central bud...the taste is a mild but very tasty OG taste with a heady fruit aftertone....i didnt ask the lineage,but is this maybe an OG hybrid with banana kush? it has that flavor and the look...maybe im crazy....and it hits the head like a strong,good OG should,complete and stupifying...id be glad to let these jedis trick me into donating for this any time!!

i also got a free gram of bananarama for being a virgin...i cant smell this stuff or ill vomit....its not that its a bad smell,its just so strong and musty that it overwhelms....i was told this was banana rammed back into itself a few times...super concentrated bud?right on!! it is very loose for a banana,with those typical banana tendrils,just not super densely packed like im used to....the taste that comes out isnt as strong as the smell,and thats good,it would overwhelm...as it is,the taste is awesome,less banana and more good soil,very earthy...indistinct kind of all enveloping high,very sudden effect....its a little harsh,i dont think the cure is as good as it could be,but it tastes good and has a good high that is what i would call 'typical stoney',a general stoned effect as opposed to leaning towards any specific quality

the food was great,the atmosphere better,the buds better than that...i would recommend hitting this place up just to be a part of the community,even if the buds werent great...but what do you know,the buds ARE great!!! i look forward to goin again

I come to this place every once in a while when I'm in the area. Everytime i've always gotten fire meds, and have never been let down. Their topshelf has a $60 cap but it's a small price to pay for some bomb og's. You should def. come check it out sometime.

I saw that GDP was back on the menu, so I had to stop by this weekend and check it out. I didn't see Dre in, so Rob was my budtender. This is the first time he has helped me and I must say he was knowledgable and very nice. Rob told me that the GDP was from a new vendor, but it still looked great. There were very large nugs that were dense and definitely expertly cared for. My favorite batch looked different from this batch, it was very purple and sticky. I have been calling it "candied GDP" around my place because its look and smell are unique from any batch I have seen elsewhere. I think that batch was closer to the Purple Erkle side of the spectrum whereas this new batch looks a little closer to the Big Bud side (for those who don't know GDP is Purple Erkle crossed with Big Bud). Rob picked out a fat nug for me and this should tide me over nicely until the next batch comes in. I can't get over how good the batch I had here a while ago was, but this batch is a close second. It is definitely better than the versions I have had at 2 other very well regarded spots in the city recently. After sampling GDPs all over the city for some time now, I feel confident in saying that Green Works has the best.

During my last visit, Dre recommended the Banana OG to me and it looked great so I took him up on the recommendation. I must say that I am very glad I did because this batch is fantastic. It is extremely sticky with the looks, sweet smell and taste to impress. I got some more today (they were running low when I left). I wasn't sure about the genetics of this strain so I asked Rob more about it. I've heard Banana is a Sativa, but this batch feels strongly Indica dominant. I think it's probably safe to assume that it is Banana crossed with OG Kush with the OG Indica effects dominating. Rob thought so as well. I must say that I love everything about this batch. It has the heavy body high of the OG, but the clearer head high of the Banana. This strain reminds me a bit of the Blueberry that was in a while ago which had a very nice body high a clean head high that is both chill and happy. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this example of the strain. Much thanks to Dre for bringing this strain to my attention, it is a winner. Dre was aware of how much I liked the Blueberry, Hashberry and GDP and was really spot on with his recommendation. I am now officially obsessed with the sweeter flavored Indicas coming from Green Works, they are definitely the best in the city. Between the Banana OG, Blueberry, Hashberry and Grape Ape I've had here recently, it's hard to imagine finding much better. Please keep them coming!

As usual the vibe was great and there was a ton of delightful things to choose from. I took advantage of the Monday special and it's an awesome deal. I wanted to also quickly thank Green Works for keeping their Menu so regularly updated, there have been multiple updates daily and it just goes to show how on this spot is. I know that there was a review recently that mentioned them not updating their menu, but it was on the 4th of July weekend and I have only once had a problem with Green Works on this and I have visited many times. Keep it up guys, it's really amazing to have spots this great in the city. Once again, if you have not visited this spot, you are missing out. It is a must visit, very much worth the drive for me. It is very clear that the operators of this spot know what they are doing.

One thing I love about this place is their menu board. They always have something that suits your price range and always have a good variety of buds in. Now even better they sell pieces which looked awsome when I came in. 619's are always bomb!

green wroks,,, where do i start..great buds, great staff, great place of business. i come in here about once a week to get some super danks i cant get anywhere else. knowladgble staff, very nice and outgoing. definatly know whut there talkign about. i always recomend other patients to greenworks. personally one of my favorite dispensarys that i wll alaways go to. definatly check it out if ure i need of great budz.

..That its a freakin house! But a house disguised as a wonderful dispensary on the inside! first u check in (always a nice gal to greet u!) Then u see a flat screen always playin something good. Theres 3 other entries 1 to the bud room, as i like to call it. Then the 2 others go to god knows where (probly nuggs secret hide out hee-hee-hee j/k) but enyways lets talk about the staff i know i should know ian real well but were both kinda shy so 2 shy 1's talkin herb probly isnt good but hey he still has skills and knows what hes doin. Then theres the coolest, always lookin for ur best interest Mr. Dre dizzle! He really is the best BT! Just try requesting him as ur BT and you'll C...btw nuggs can dre be my new BT?either him or that new guy that looks like he's a beatles fan(i believe i saw him wearin a beatles shirt) Srry Ian's a lil too shy. Ok now theres NUGGS! Only encountered him about 4 or 5 times outta the whole friggin time ive been goin to this dispensary. They always make up for mistakes too! I think thats cool and professional for instance, u get sum ineffective herb (rarely happens) and u can just bring it back and get sumthin else that suits u and i remember one time they lost my membership and they gave me a FREE GRAM oh and speakin of free gram thats just what u get when u become a member and not a shitty gram a good gram in the $50 an eighth range now do u think they are compassionate??

Ive had the Larry Og when they had it sum super bomb fire for the price goo berry! The goo berry wasnt the best but it last a long time and a bowl of it should get the job dun! Then back in the day they carried MEAN batches of catpiss and mango both bomb and never lack potency!
Now my most recent pick was from Cali connection seeds:
CHEM VALLEY KUSH: Smelled like garlic popcorn, tasted sour yet nutty, felt in a amnesia state of mind. Sort of felt like the whole day went by without me even noticing. Very heady at first then creeps to a lite body high(for me at least) then BAM! ur blitzd! This stuff really gets ya dazed and confused. Pretty sticky stuff too! It was monday so they gave me a fair 15 dollar gram price plus it was my B-day so i got a FREE JOINT!!! WOOOHOOO!!

The staff at Green Works always show compassion, and have a dense selection of amazing flowers to choose from. With most strains, if I have a larger amount I will get too used to it and not enjoy it as much. I would be happy medicating with any of the top shelf strains here indefinitely. With a house-like demeanor, this dispensary couldn't be more discreet. Usually the receptionist will open the door for you before you reach it-if they're not busy. Ian and Dre always show respect and interest for all customers, even the quiet ones :D. This is the favorite club of the area, unless I'm elsewhere this is my goto spot.

Come by on Thursday and get a free snapper our of their inline bong. I ripped a nice bowl of Platinum og which left me dazed for a few moments...and then reality rushed back and I was on my way out the door.

There are always new rare strains flowing in weekly. This is a pro and con because while there is much variety, some strains move very quickly. If you're in the area I would recommend checking it out.

Green Works is the only place that I suggest to any other medical users. When I tell a friend about it, I want to take them there even though I don't plan on buying anything. It's just an awesome place to go to. They always have very friendly (and attractive) girls up front that I love being greeted by. It is so easy to get caught up in a conversation (about anything) with these girls while you're waiting for your turn. The bud tenders are very friendly as well. I feel comfortable going in there, and having them help me pick out the perfect strain for me. I've been going there since January and their knowledge still impresses me every time. I learn so much from them that I almost feel like I could be a bud tender myself. As for what we care about most, the medicine, well, I can only try to describe how great their selection AND quality is. It's the best I've had. That's all I can really say. I'm positive that they will have the perfect strain for you. And I REALLY think that you should check this place out if you haven't yet. The quality of their service and products is remarkable. The only thing that I have to complain about is that I always have troubles deciding on what to get because their selection is so good (but that's where their knowledge saves me). Oh! And their daily specials, well, they seem to know what their members want in regards to that. Their free joints are bigger than any other free joints I've gotten and they don't seem to use their lowest quality strains in them. I just had to throw that last bit in... I've been to many other collectives, and this is the only one I care to write a review for because they are the only ones who deserve it.
